| Hockenheim IDM course (03/15/08): First off, it was great to meet everyone finally! It's awesome to see such a large contingent of Americans in the paddock. Hockenheim seems to be a pretty flowing track and with no patches, seals, or holes to worry about in the racing surface it is much easier to focus on learning the race lines. I pretty much ran around on my own trying to gradually pick up the pace. I enjoyed the IDM course and felt my gearing was pretty much spot-on for it. I'm not sure I liked running the 190 rears and will most likely switch back to the 180s. I need to tweak the rear suspension a bit to get better stability in the longer sweepers and to even out the tire wear. The T4 BT004s held up better than I expected. Granted I wasn't running at any kind of fast pace. But the softer compounds made me feel better about not running tire warmers all weekend. Looking at the onboard from the final two sessions I think I was able to maintain a pace in the 1'43" - 1'45" range. Still a long way to go to be able to hang with any of the other Team America riders, but I was happy for my first time out and steady improvement. The Hockenheim hotel was a great deal! The staff was overly friendly and the room/restaurant was more than adequate. It is always convenient to stay at the track and for less than 80EUR, it was well worth it! (Also note that I have a pregnant wife so camping is not an option) ; P Word... |
