| Hockenheim 1000km course (03/16/08): I would say I prefer the IDM layout better. Maybe I think that because I didn't have the gearing to get me even 1/2 way down the parabolica, or maybe because I crashed in the corner after the hairpin (doesn't exist in the IDM layout). So maybe I'll form a true opinion after I run it again with proper gearing on a dry day. : D I sat out the first session figuring it would be dry by the second session and it was. It was hard to hit the entrance to the hairpin with any consistency having topped out 1/2 way around parabolica. I kept getting braver and braver in the corner following the hairpin, but unfortunately for me the weather kept getting wetter and wetter. Of course on the lap I decide I will pit in, I hit the wet spot in the fast right hander before Mercedes and down I went. The bike seemed to slide forever. It's always disappointing to see your bike going faster on its side than it does on two wheels with you ontop. : ( I slide for a lengthy time as well, and eventually had to roll off my butt to prevent what felt like it getting ready to catch fire. ; P Ultimately the damage was minimal and I am only concerned with the amount of engine case ground off. Hopefully it is still oil tight until my replacement arrives. Leading up to the crash I think I was able to finally reach a steady pace of 2'03" - 2'05" which I'm hoping might equate to sub 2" laptimes if I gear correctly and get some dry weather. Thanks for the support and hope to see some of you guys out there on the first weekend in April! WooHoo one more track configuration to learn! At least I know I probably have the correct gearing in my toolbox for that one already. : ) Word... |
