09/01/08 Hockenheim (Full Course) Monday Training Report: A Speer-Racing Monday Training session at Hockenheim. I decided I would give my rear brake technique a bit of a work out. The weather was a bit "iffy" at first but turned out to be beautiful the entire afternoon. There was a large number of people in attendance, not to mention those still on the wait-list. There was a number of accidents throughout the day which caused us to loose a bit of tracktime but I was happy to have made it past the DB limit enforcer the entire day The large number of people and the large skill spectrum made it a perfect day for trying out new techniques. I was pretty impressed with how easily the rear brake could be used without sending the bike into convulsions while entering the turns Hockenheim is a pretty "point-and-shoot" track so there wasn't any real need for fancy or tricky rear brake applications. I was pretty much just using it to slow the bike while pretty straight up and down. No rear brake to tighten up corners or anything fancy like that. I was excited about capturing some video of the end of the day because I could feel the rear moving around a bit while braking and turning in. I had a rear-facing camera mounted up, but unfortunately the batteries didn't last the entire day. I was really looking forward to seeing the video to see how bad the slides really were compared to how they felt. I was only able to capture the very first session of the day so not much movent on the rear and only the tiniest of black marks which can't seen in the compressed video. All in all, though a good time at the track with the family! Word... |
